Our Key Priorities for 2017/18
We have a work plan to help us identify the issues and activities that we need to undertake, led and developed with the full participation of our volunteers. As we are grant funded, our work plan contributes to our decision-making transparency as it is available to organisations that have a need to know what we are doing during this period.
Our priorities for 2017/18 are:
1 Bringing the public's views to the heart of local decisions on health and social care
This follows from the national priroity of Healthwatch England to bring the public's views to the heart of national decision making for health and social care
2 Queens Hospital: remove smokers from the vicinity
Seek to eliminate altogether smoking in the vicinity of the hospital
3 Development of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP), Accountable Care System and Locality care
(a) To monitor and scrutinise the STP for the North East London "footprint" in conjuction with the other local Healthwatch organisations in the area, the local authority Overview & Scrutiny Committees and other bodies, and to consult the public as necessary
(b) To monitor and scrutinise the Accountable Care System for the Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbrige in conjuction with the other local Healthwatch organisations in the area, the local authority Overview & Scrutiny Committees and other bodies, and to consult the public as necessary
(c) To monitor and scrutinise the development of a Locality-based appraoch to the delivery of health and social care services in Havering, participating in the development of the new network and ensuring that the needs of service users are not overlooked.
4 Domiciliary Care Services
(a) Monitor the provision and commissioning of Domiciliary Care Services
(b) Monitor care for those living with dementia in their own homes
5 Patient empowerment
To work with local organisations such as GP practice Patient Participation Groups to ensure that the voice of the service user is not only heard but taken fully into account in all health and social care service developments
6 Enter and View programme
(a) Continue our Enter and View programme at residential care and nursing homes, to GP surgeries and to hospital facilities
(b) Continue follow-up visits to premises visited
In addition to extending our role within these areas we will monitor the work and achievements which have happened in previous years to ensure that, where we have been successful in ‘Making a Difference’, this improvement to health and social care is maintained and wherever possible developed further.
